Revenue Officer

If you have you been assigned a Revenue Officer, contact United Tax Group immediately.

It is not uncommon for a representative from the IRS to visit you at your home or place of business. If this happens, it is imperative that you contact United Tax Group immediately.

If you receive a personal visit from the IRS, it means that a specific representative from the IRS has been assigned to your tax case. You now have a personal tax collector to deal with, in addition to the back taxes you may owe. It also means the IRS has labeled you a priority case for tax debt collections. The Revenue Officer has been assigned to you to collect information personally, maximizing the IRS’s collection efforts. Should this occur, you do have the right to legal representation. However, if you choose not to retain representation and speak with an assigned Revenue Officer yourself, you may inadvertently provide the IRS with information that can ultimately be detrimental to you and your family. DO NOT SPEAK TO THE REVENUE OFFICER UNTIL YOU HAVE CONSULTED WITH A TAX PROFESSIONAL.

Generally, a Revenue Officer will be assigned for the following reasons.

  • Your tax debt has been classified as “large.”
  • The IRS has been unable to collect from you through normal collection efforts.
  • You have a history of non-compliance with the IRS.

The major difference between having your case handled by the IRS Automated Collections System and having it be handled by a Revenue Officer is the level of collection activity taken. A Revenue Officer has a limited caseload, which allows the officer to expedite levies on your wages or bank account, file liens, and even seize your property.
